Lillie McCloud

Two days to go and my life, as I know it, changes irrevocably.

The pattern of my life has been shifting and changing since 2010. Four and half year phases predominated. Then LBC put pay to that.

Three and a half years and I was moving on. The Beeb have squeezed that three years into two.

It is scary when you get to 64. It is scary when there is huge unemployment among women OF A CERTAIN AGE...don't you just hate that expression.

It is scary when all the money that you made has gone on living, leaving not a pfennig for anything other than survival.

BUT having lived this long I have no intention of slowing down, I have no intention of being swept into the back of the cupboard under the stairs. I am tearful today. having just seen LILLIE McCLOUD sing her heart out on American X Factor.

Check her out on You Tube.

When you're too frightened to make decisions yourself the Universe steps in and, make no mistake, it takes the reigns. Kicking and screaming into the next phase can be brutal but there is no choice but to move on.

Am I feeling sorry for myself? I think a little bit. Do I think it's because I have low self esteem and that I expect to be sidelined? NO. Do I think it's because I'm old, mouthy, and difficult to control - well I would have to say YES.

But as my Spanish corsetier said to me as she fitted me for a bigger undergarment:

'It ees natural for your boobies to grow as you mat-ure.'

'I don't like it' I whined.

'Well you have a tchoice' she said. 'You either grow old or chdie young,'

Here's to my 65th.

Dear Jeni
All recent indications point to the BBC going absolutely mad. I thought your prog was just perfect in that time slot. I wouldn't be surprised if they came crawling back to you when they realised what a mistake they have made.
You mustn't give up, you have such a talent for making people laugh and that is so precious.
Regards
Penny

Oh Jeni, haven't checked your blog for a few days so this morning has come as a terrible shock. What on earth is the Beeb thinking of? When you joined BBC London it made me tune in to more of the station - now they can go hang. I just don't understand but keep blogging and let all of your devoted fans know what's next - which there will be. You can't keep a talented girl down and 65 is a mere child, I know!
Don't lose your joie de vivie and your true talent will ring out again xx

What will I do without my Jeni's laughter on Sunday mornings? I had a lovely chat with you when you did an O/B in Battersea High Street on the day of William & Kate's wedding, YOU WERE FAB, such a darling and I really feel quite sad that you are not part of my Sundays anymore. Be well and go share your wonderful personality with those who appreciate you. Much love and BIG HUGS. E xx

Dear Jeni - I was so sad to hear that you were 'moving on' and have loved all the Sunday mornings listening to you and your guests. You made me laugh!I'm writing this on a wet Monday afternoon and your replacement is replacing Jo Good this afternoon. It's dreadful, actually it's embarrassingly dreadful. I have switched off. BBC London will be losing listeners in their droves with this change.
Take care, Jeni - and let us know where we'll find you next! x

I loved listening to you on LBC in the 1-4 pm afternoon slot and then immediately followed you to London. Let us know where you go next please. Although, at times, you have irritated me with your narrow minded views you are a great radio presenter. Easy to listen to and have a good sense of humour.Good luck with what ever comes your way next.
